I Thought It Would Be Cheesy… Then I Heard Our Song

I Thought It Would Be Cheesy… Then I Heard Our Song ❤️

Just Our Song.… Wow!

After a really long, really bad day, I came across one of those ads where you can create your own song. I was laying in bed, just trying to emotionally and mentally reset from the day, when I decided to fill it out and see what it was actually about.

They claimed you could hear your song before you bought it.

I remember thinking, This is probably going to be cheesy.

But I answered the seven questions, giving as much detail as I could think of after a very long day. And honestly, I was trying my hardest to suppress the writer in me and just answer the questions instead of trying to write the song myself.

I hit submit and waited.

About six minutes later, my first 90-second preview was ready.

I hit play.

I was crying before the first 45 seconds were over.

So, naturally, I had to have it.

Of course, there was a 30-minute guaranteed delivery option, and I immediately decided I needed this song today. I was checking my account to make sure I had enough money when I noticed they accepted Klarna.

Oh my goodness. That’s perfect.

I knew I had enough for the minimum payment, so I checked out, waited my 30 minutes, and then, at 9:30 that night, I made up an excuse for Terry and me to run to the Dollar Tree three miles down the road.

My only regret is that I didn’t wait until there was more light so I could record his reaction.
But there was absolutely no way I was keeping this secret until the next day.

As soon as we turned off our road, I hit play.

The song started out about a couple meeting in middle school and growing up together. I looked over at him and asked, “What do you think of this one?”

Terry is always sending me songs that remind him of us, so I figured he would appreciate it even if it wasn’t quite our song.

He told me he was just about to say, “This one definitely sounds like it would be close,” when he heard his name.

And that’s when I looked over at him.

My strong husband, who works all day in the Florida sun on cars, who can handle just about any project I throw at him, had tears in his eyes.

For a moment, it felt like I was looking at the same man I married all those years ago.

Except this time, someone had taken our whole messy, beautiful, crazy story and put it into a song.

Our middle school beginning.
Our little church wedding.
Moving to Florida with two kids.
Rebuilding our home.
The hard years.
The kids. • The goats. • The salvage yard.
The ridiculous inside jokes.

The fact that somehow, after everything, we are still best friend.

I didn’t know we needed a song that was just ours.
But apparently, we did.

And now we have one. ❤️

Lyrics…

Met you back in middle school a lifetime ago
I was always packing up and ready to go
We were off and on like a flickering light
But Terry you were always worth the fight
Ten years later in my Daddy’s small church
No wedding dress and no long search
No guests in the pews while he joined us two
I started my life when I said I do

We moved to Florida on a whim in the sun
With a beat up trailer and two kids to run
Rebuilt those walls on five acres of land
Doing the work with our own two hands

Oh Terry you are still my very best friend
The one I will choose until the very end
We did the work when the road got tough
Turns out that our friendship was more than enough
Love me more always is carved in our rings
I am so thankful for these simple things

Three years in we nearly hit the wall
But we did the work and we didn’t fall
We brought home three then we brought home four
I don’t work the healthcare floors no more
You quote Varsity Blues in the salvage yard
And we got too many goats and you work so hard

We joke we are T N T because we spark
But you lead me home through the deep and dark
Ten years later we finally got our day
I wouldn’t have it any other way

Oh Terry you are still my very best friend
The one I will choose until the very end
We did the work when the road got tough
Turns out that our friendship was more than enough
Love me more always is carved in our rings
I am so thankful for these simple things

Two less lonely people in the world tonight
I love you Terry
Always

So, How Hard Was It to Make Our Song?

After the beautiful moment of hearing it for the first time wore off, everyone’s first question was pretty much the same:

“Did you have to write all of that?”
And then:
“How hard was it to put together?”

Honestly? Not hard at all.

It was seven questions.
That’s it.

It took me maybe 15 minutes to answer them.

I gave them every little detail I could think of about us. Our history, our marriage, our kids, our life in Florida, the hard seasons, the ridiculous stuff, the little things that make us us.

But I didn’t write a song.
I just answered questions.

And I definitely didn’t put my answers in any kind of fancy order. 😂

I basically handed them seven random little piles of our life and said, Here you go.

And here’s the part that really impressed me:

Every single thing in the finished song came from something I gave them in those seven answers.
They didn’t add some random detail about our relationship. They didn’t make something up to fill space. They didn’t magically know some secret piece of our story.

Every word was mine.
The songwriting was theirs.

They took my seven scattered answers and somehow found the story hiding inside them.

They put the pieces in the right order, turned them into verses and a chorus, found the emotional thread running through all those random details, and created something that sounds like it was written specifically for Terry and me.

A beautiful, personalized masterpiece that I didn’t even know I needed. ❤️

Let me know if you try it.

  1. How totally cool is that??!!! So perfect! For a perfect little love story in all its imperfect little ways that make it so real. Love you guys!

  2. Oh, Tiffany. I am NOT okay after reading this. 😭 I sat here with my phone in my hand telling myself it was just going to be another sweet story, and then the line “Turns out that our friendship was more than enough” hit me and I had to pause and get a grip.
The fact that you didn’t write a song — you just answered seven questions and handed them “seven random little piles of your life” — that is the part that gets me. Because that’s what all the good AI tools are doing now, honestly. I’ve been playing around with cubistai.org for image stuff recently, and it’s the same feeling: you feed it your messy, scattered ideas and it somehow finds the story hiding inside and hands you back something that actually looks and feels like yours. It’s a little magical, and a little unnerving, all at once.
But your tears-in-his-eyes moment on the way to Dollar Tree? That’s the real magic. Not the tech. The tech just gave you the words — you two gave it the story worth telling.
“Love me more always is carved in our rings” — I’m a wreck. Tell Terry the T N T line is iconic. 🧡
