Today’s Journal Thought ✍️

Pause. Reflect. Write.
🌿☕📖💜

Finding beauty in ordinary life, one page at a time.

I am still behind with the house flip, and I still don’t have the quiet little setup I need to write with the focus I want. 🙃

So this week, instead of our traditional Journal Thought, let’s try an expressive exercise. 😅

It’s honestly a little scary to admit how often I do this. But I also find it incredibly therapeutic.

A therapist I had when I was in my early teens suggested this very cliché exercise to me, and somehow, all these years later, I still come back to it.

If you’ve been carrying a lot lately…
I know I have. • Try this.

Go somewhere private.
Grab a pillow.
And start saying everything you’ve been holding back.

Everything you feel like you can’t say to the people around you.
Everything you’re afraid to say out loud.
Maybe even the things you haven’t been willing to admit to yourself.

Cry. • Laugh. • Yell.

Whatever comes up, let it come out.

You don’t have to make it pretty.
You don’t have to make it make sense.
You don’t have to solve anything.

Just let it out.

Then sit quietly for a few minutes and breathe.

And when you’re ready, ask yourself:

Did anything shift?
Do I feel lighter?
Did I uncover something I need to address?
Do I feel a stronger urge to confront what’s in front of me?

Write it down.

Sometimes getting everything out isn’t about finding an answer. Sometimes it’s simply about creating enough room inside yourself to hear what comes next.

That line really stuck with me when I saw it in a recent post from Randy Spelling, who inspired me to revisit this exercise this week.

🌿 I’d love to hear from you if you try this exercise. 🌿
What came up? How did you feel afterward?

And if you don’t feel comfortable sharing publicly but you need somewhere to put your thoughts, send me a message here or through Mail From the Porch. 💌
