💭 THE FIRST SIP
A devoted mother trying to make a fresh start for herself and her special-needs son.

📖 WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Denise and her nonverbal son, Kyle, are involved in a car accident. Local volunteer firefighter Taylor responds to the scene, but Kyle is missing.

Taylor leads the search and rescue effort to find him. After finding him it creates a bond between Taylor and Kyle that Denise can’t ignore.

As that bond grows, Denise slowly begins to let her guard down, trust Taylor, and consider the possibility of finding love again.

❤️ WHAT I LOVED
• Nicholas Sparks is an amazing storyteller, and this one definitely carries that signature emotional pull.

• I loved the honest depiction of being a single mom, especially the added challenges and fears that come with raising a special-needs child.

• The chemistry and heat between Denise and Taylor. ❤️

• But honestly, the relationship Taylor develops with Kyle is what hit me the hardest. Watching Kyle experience that kind of connection with a father figure is emotionally heavy in the best way.

• And I’m actually glad this one was never turned into a movie. I feel like something about the story might have been lost in the translation.

🤔 WHAT I DIDN’T LOVE
• Nicholas Sparks has an unspoken signature to his stories that those of us who faithfully read his books already know… someone almost always dies. 😭

• I really wish we had gotten a longer epilogue. I wanted just a little more of their life after everything settled or even just an extra chapter from where they ended the story.

☕ FINAL SIP

📚 Would I recommend it?
Absolutely!
A great mom read with tasteful romance, emotional depth, and plenty of those Nicholas Sparks feelings.

📚 I’d recommend this if you like:
Contemporary Romance • Emotional Romance • Second Chances • Single-Mom Stories • Family Drama • Nicholas Sparks

☕ Espresso Thoughts:
Emotional. A total tear-jerker.
Second chances aren’t just for other people or for love.
Sometimes they’re for yourself… and for your kids. ❤️

💭 BEST QUOTE:
“People come, people go – they’ll drift in and out of your life, almost like characters in a favorite book. When you finally close the cover, the characters have told their story and you start up again with another book, complete with new characters and adventures. Then you find yourself focusing on the new ones, not the ones from the past.”

☕ ESPRESSO RATING: 4/5
