BETWEEN COFFEE & CHAOS: A Mother’s Prayer

A Mother’s Prayer
When Being Mama Just Isn’t Enough

There are some prayers only a mother understands.
The prayers whispered when nobody else is awake.
The prayers that don’t have beautiful words or carefully chosen sentences.

The prayers that simply admit:

I’m afraid.
I don’t know what to do.
I need help.

The ones that sound more like:

Please keep my child safe.
Please help them when I can’t.
Please give them the support I am lacking.
Please let them know they are loved, and let them feel Your love in this dark hour.
Please give me wisdom for what comes next and how to get through to them.

It means asking for help.
It means trusting people who aren’t you, people who have been trained to help, to do their jobs and care for your child in ways you may not be able to.

And sometimes, it means placing your child in God’s hands when your own hands can’t reach them.

When you have done everything you know to do and the answers still aren’t coming.

When it feels like every worldly solution is failing you.

Especially when you have to learn the difference between holding on and letting go.

I think one of the hardest things for a mama to accept is knowing that we did not fail just because our child is struggling and we can’t always fix everything.

We are, by nature, fixers.

We kiss the boo-boos.
We find the missing shoes and the favorite shirt when little eyes somehow overlook them.
We find the missing sheet of homework.
We make the appointments.
We solve the arguments.
We stay awake and chase the boogeyman away.

We worry.
We pray.

But then sometimes life hands us something that isn’t ours to fix.

Something that’s theirs.
Something they have to face.
Something they have to overcome.

Something that requires more than Mama’s help.

And that can be a very hard thing to surrender.

So today, I’m praying for every mother carrying something she can’t fix,
can’t control, and can’t fully explain.

For the mama who is tired of being strong.
For the mom who has been holding everything together for everyone else.

You are allowed to admit that you’re tired.
You are allowed to not know what comes next.
You are allowed to pray the same prayer again and again.

You are allowed to be unsure of what to do.
And you are allowed to need help – and to ask for it.
Being strong doesn’t mean you never fall apart.

Sometimes strength looks like whispering,

May you have peace for today.
Strength for the next step.
Wisdom for the next decision.
And enough faith to leave tomorrow where it belongs.

In God’s hands. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’œ
